Lithium Batteries for Alarm Systems

Alarm systems spend most of their life waiting. Sensors, panels and backup circuits draw little current for months or years, and then must work instantly when an alarm triggers. Primary lithium batteries fit that pattern: LiMnO2 cells are stated to offer a shelf life of up to 10 years with self-discharge of less than 1 percent per year at 20 degrees Celsius, and LiSOCl2 cells are stated to offer more than 10 years at category level. A cell that has faded in storage is a failed alarm, so shelf life is a safety specification, not a convenience.

The choice between chemistries depends on the device. Compact wireless sensors typically use CR cells such as CR123A or CR2, which deliver 3V in a small package. Larger panels and long-life installations may use ER cells or custom packs, where higher capacity and wider temperature tolerance matter. Operating temperature ranges from -40 to 85 degrees Celsius for the LiMnO2 category and -55 to +85 degrees Celsius on the ER detail page, covering unheated buildings and outdoor enclosures.

Before ordering, confirm the model, the capacity variant, the operating temperature range and the final datasheet. Minimum order value is USD $500, according to the company FAQ, and samples are available. Lead time is confirmed per order. Certificates are available upon request.
