Lithium Batteries for GPS Trackers

GPS trackers for vehicles, containers, assets and people must work in the field for long periods without a battery change, and they must transmit position fixes that draw pulse currents. Primary lithium batteries serve both needs: LiSOCl2 cells provide years of energy at low self-discharge, and hybrid pulse capacitor packs supply the transmission pulses. The company's own published case example, reported as a company statement, describes a custom ER14505 pack built for GPS asset tracking in South Africa, at 3.6V and 5,400 mAh. No customer name is given in that example, and none is given here.

Choosing a cell for a tracker starts with the reporting interval. A tracker that reports once a day can run for years on a single ER cell. A tracker that reports every few minutes draws far more pulse current, and a hybrid pulse capacitor pack or a larger cell such as ER26500 or ER34615 may be the better fit. Size and weight also matter: a tracker hidden in a vehicle or attached to an asset has a fixed battery compartment, so the cell must fit the housing as well as meet the energy budget.

Before ordering, confirm the model, the capacity variant, the reporting interval, the operating temperature range and the final datasheet. Minimum order value is USD $500, according to the company FAQ, and samples are available. Lead time is confirmed per order. Certificates are available upon request.
